Concrete & Brick Testing Services
UMLAB Sarawak carries out physical and mechanical testing of structural concrete and masonry from our Kuching HQ, covering everything from cube compressive strength to non-destructive in-situ checks, for building and infrastructure projects across Sarawak.
What We Test
Compressive Strength Test
Crushes concrete cubes or cylinders under a hydraulic press to determine the compressive strength against the design grade.
Density Test
Measures the density of a hardened concrete or brick sample to check it falls within the expected range for its mix design.
Mix Composition Test
Analyses a concrete sample to verify its cement, aggregate, and water content match the specified mix design.
Rebound Hammer
A non-destructive spring-loaded plunger test that estimates in-situ concrete strength from the rebound distance of the hammer. See our concrete strength testing guide.
Concrete Core Sampling
Extracts a cylindrical core from hardened concrete for strength testing where cast cube samples aren't available or are in dispute.
Water Absorption
Measures how much water a hardened concrete or brick sample absorbs, an indicator of porosity and durability.
Unconfined Compressive (UCS)
Tests an unconfined cylindrical sample to failure under axial load, commonly used for stabilised soil and weak rock as well as concrete.
Indirect Tensile (ITS)
Loads a cylindrical sample along its diameter to estimate tensile strength, since concrete and asphalt are difficult to test in direct tension.
Pull Off Test
Bonds a steel dolly to a concrete or coating surface and pulls it off to measure surface bond/tensile strength in-situ. See our pull-off test guide.
Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity
Passes an ultrasonic pulse through concrete to assess its uniformity, detect voids or cracking, and estimate quality non-destructively. See our UPV testing guide.

Standards & Reporting
Testing follows Malaysian JKR specifications and standard geotechnical test methods. Final test reports are endorsed by a Professional Engineer (PEPC).
