Aggregate & Sand Testing Services

UMLAB Sarawak evaluates raw mineral aggregates and fill materials for highway structural layers and concrete production, checking strength, shape, and grading against design requirements for infrastructure projects across Sarawak.

What We Test

01 / 09

Aggregate Crushing Value

Measures an aggregate's resistance to crushing under a gradually applied compressive load; lower values indicate stronger aggregate. See our aggregate testing guide.

02 / 09

Aggregate Impact Value

Measures an aggregate's resistance to sudden shock loading from a falling hammer, complementing the crushing value test.

03 / 09

Aggregate Soundness Test

Repeatedly wets and dries (or freezes and thaws) an aggregate sample to check its resistance to weathering breakdown.

04 / 09

Aggregate 10% Fines

Determines the load required to produce 10% fines when an aggregate sample is crushed, an alternative strength measure to the crushing value for weaker aggregates.

05 / 09

Flakiness & Elongation Index

Measures the proportion of flat or elongated particles in an aggregate sample, since irregular particle shape affects compaction and strength.

06 / 09

Sieve Analysis

Passes an aggregate or sand sample through a stack of sieves to determine its particle size distribution (grading).

07 / 09

Specific Gravity/Porosity

Determines an aggregate's specific gravity and porosity, used in mix design calculations and to assess durability.

08 / 09

Sphericity

Assesses how close an aggregate particle's shape is to a sphere, another shape-quality indicator alongside flakiness and elongation.

09 / 09

Design Mix (C.I.P.R)

Laboratory mix design for Cold In-Place Recycling, determining the right proportions of reclaimed asphalt, binder, and additives. See our CIPR explainer.

Standards & Reporting

Testing follows Malaysian JKR specifications and standard geotechnical test methods. Final test reports are endorsed by a Professional Engineer (PEPC).
