Field Density Test (Sand Replacement) in Sarawak

Field density testing by the sand replacement method for earthworks, roads and platforms across Sarawak.

Common Problems on Earthworks Jobs

01 / 06

Next layer waiting on proof of compaction

The next layer cannot go on until compaction is proven. Without verified density test results, filling operations stall and plant sits idle.

02 / 06

Consultant requires measured density numbers

Compaction looks fine on site, but the consultant wants numbers. Field testing provides documented dry density and relative compaction figures.

03 / 06

Disputes over whether fill achieved target density

Disputes arise over whether the fill reached the required density. Testing to recognised standard methods provides clear data to resolve questions on site.

04 / 06

Rain and soft fill make compaction uncertain

Frequent rain alters moisture levels and can soften placed fill. Field density testing confirms whether the layer meets the required compaction after rolling.

05 / 06

Many test points needed across large platforms

Large earthworks platforms and road alignments require multiple test points per lift. Planned test points help cover the whole fill area.

06 / 06

Results needed in a formal report

Handover packages and site approval records require formal documentation. We issue a formal test report with calculated densities and moisture contents.

Tests We Carry Out

Test Name What It Tells You Standard / Method

How It Works

01 / 04

Booking & Details

Book with location, layer and number of points.

02 / 04

On-Site Testing

Our team tests on site using the sand replacement method.

03 / 04

Density Calculation

Density is worked out against the lab reference value.

04 / 04

Formal Reporting

You receive a formal test report.

Standards & Reporting

Testing follows Malaysian JKR specifications and standard geotechnical test methods. Final test reports are endorsed by a Professional Engineer (PEPC).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a field density test?

A field density test measures the in-place dry density of compacted soil or fill material on site to determine whether compaction meets the contract specification.

What is the sand replacement method?

A small hole is excavated in the compacted layer, and its volume is determined by pouring calibrated sand from a standardised pouring cylinder. The excavated material is weighed and dried to calculate in-place dry density.

When is the large pouring cylinder used?

The large pouring cylinder is used for coarser fill materials with larger particle sizes, as specified in BS 1377 Part 9.

Do you come to site in Sarawak?

Yes, our team carries out testing on site across Sarawak; see service areas.

How do I book?
