Soil Testing & Geotechnical Testing
UMLAB Sarawak carries out subsoil investigation and soil mechanics testing from our Kuching HQ, supporting foundation design, pavement subgrade design, and site suitability assessment for infrastructure projects across Sarawak.
What We Test
Soil Classification & Investigation
Identifies soil type, grading, and index properties to determine how a subgrade or foundation stratum will behave under load. See our soil classification tests guide.
Soil Compaction Test
Establishes the maximum dry density and optimum moisture content for a fill material, used as the compaction target during earthworks.
Lab & In-Situ CBR
California Bearing Ratio testing, in the lab (soaked and unsoaked) or directly on site, to size pavement layer thickness for the design traffic load. See our CBR testing guide.
Dynamic Cone Penetrometer
A portable penetration test that gives a rapid, continuous profile of in-situ subgrade strength with depth. See our DCP test guide.
Mackintosh Probe
Light dynamic penetrometer testing for preliminary soil investigation and shallow foundation design, particularly in soft ground. See our Mackintosh probe test guide.
Field Density Test
Verifies that compacted fill has reached its target density on site, typically by the sand replacement method. See our sand replacement test guide.
Rapid Moisture (Speedy) Test
A fast on-site moisture content check used to make real-time compaction and earthworks decisions without waiting for lab results.
Trial Pit
Manual or excavator-dug pits to visually log soil stratigraphy, groundwater level, and take undisturbed or bulk samples.
Infiltration Test
Measures how quickly water percolates into the ground, used to size soakaways and drainage infrastructure.
Soil tests we run
Standards & Reporting
Testing follows Malaysian JKR specifications and standard geotechnical test methods. Final test reports are endorsed by a Professional Engineer (PEPC).
